Build & Trek: 8-24 October 2026 – FULL

Many of us donate to causes close to our hearts. But how often do we actually see the impact? Supporting Nepal’s Children is offering you the chance to do just that – and more. Join us in October 2026 for an extraordinary journey to Nepal where you’ll help build the further development of the Olgapuri Vocational School that will change lives for generations to come, followed by a trek through one of the world’s most stunning mountain landscapes.

Why this matters

Nepal is breathtaking—but behind the beauty lies deep poverty. Every year, over 750,000 young Nepalis leave home in search of work abroad, often ending up in low-paid jobs in the Middle East. With few opportunities at home, many see no other choice.

Vocational Schools are changing that story. With training in plumbing, tailoring, carpentry, and welding, over 4,000 young people have already stepped into dignified, skilled careers. In October 2026, you can help extend this opportunity to hundreds more.

What you’ll do

Phase 1: Build

After arriving in Kathmandu and soaking up the city’s culture, we’ll travel to Olgapuri in the heart of Lalitpur village.

Over the next 4-5 days you’ll work alongside Nepali builders on the Vocational School expansion—digging, laying bricks, painting, and more. You will work each day supervised by local builders, in a safe environment. Whilst it can be hard, hot work, it is incredibly rewarding.

You’ll stay in a fully serviced Base Camp right by the site, with single tents, hot meals, showers, and lots of laughter around the campfire. You’ll also meet current students—young people whose futures you’re helping shape.

Phase 2: Trek

After the hard work, we head to Pokhara—hello, comfy hotel bed—and then set out on a 4–5 day trek to Poon Hill, guided by experienced leaders from the UK. You’ll walk 6–8 miles a day on scenic trails, staying in tea lodges run by local families and watching the incredible sight of the sunrise over the Annapurna range. Your gear? Carried by our friendly porter team. You? Just your daypack, camera, and a sense of wonder.

Because of the relatively low altitude (sub-8,000ft) you will only require minimal acclimatisation during the trek.

We return to Kathmandu for a final night of celebration before flying home with full hearts.

Your commitment

We ask each participant to raise a minimum of £5,000 in sponsorship, which goes towards the construction of the school – we’re extremely proud at SNC that we keep our Admin costs (e.g. accounts, Charity Commission and marketing) at just 3% of funds raised.

You’ll also cover your own trip cost (approx. £2,785, excluding flights and insurance), as do the members of SNC in attendance. The cost covers all meals and accommodation at the build site and trek, plus B&B in Kathmandu
and Pokhara. This isn’t a holiday – it’s an adventure with purpose.

This trip demands both emotional and financial commitment. We work closely with the Nepal Youth Foundation to ensure every pound is used effectively. You’ll be part of a supportive, motivated team where everyone pulls together and, from previous experiences, form lasting friendships and have one of the most meaningful experiences of your life.

Preparation & Support

You’ll attend three UK training weekends (in the Peak and Lake District) to meet the team, prep for the trek, learn health and safety basics, and share fundraising ideas. We provide ready-to-go fundraising materials and help you every step of the way, and access to preparation videos.

Who can join?

You don’t need to be Bear Grylls. If you’re reasonably fit, open-minded, and up for a challenge, you’ll be just fine. Participants must be 18+.
