Everest Basecamp Trek October/November 2023

We took a strong team to Everest Base Camp, raising valuable funds for Supporting Nepal’s Children and the St. James’s Place Charitable Foundation.

They trekked over 60 miles each way, experienced Nepal’s culture, met Everest summiteers, and developed a unique relationship with our Sherpa team in Nepal. This arduous trek took them higher than 5,600 metres and required a serious commitment in terms of fitness and tenacity, training weekend attendance and fundraising over 12 months.

Each team member was expected to raise a minimum of £5,000 sponsorship and paid all their own flights, insurance and expenses. They smashed their collective target, raising over £130,000. All sponsorship raised went to Supporting Nepal’s Children to support the building of the new Vocational School in Nepal that will give young people the chance to learn a trade and secure permanent work. The money was matched by the St. James’s Place Charitable Foundation for their own worthy causes.

Build and Trek November 2021 – Postponed to October/November 2022

We originally planned for a two-week event in November 2021 to fund and build a Vocational School  for young people to learn a trade – carpentry, plumbing, electrics, welding, fabrications and tailoring, so that students could go back to their village and start a business.

Our plans were thwarted by the COVID situation in Nepal, so we continued fundraising until we could resume our expedition in October 2022. Our funding had already helped build the foundations, basement and ground floor of the School, so when we arrived in October 2022 we had raised enough funds to build the remaining three floors. The Vocational School is a phenomenally successful model piloted by the Nepal Youth Foundation, and we are helping expand the capacity of the existing facilities. When we visited in October 2023 classes were already underway and 24 Tailoring students had already been placed in jobs after the first week of their three month course! That’s the level of demand  that exists.

Altogether the team raised over £130,000, that was matched by St. James’s Place for their charitable causes, specifically Onside Centres for young people in the UK.

Everest Basecamp Trek October 2021
– Postponed to October 2022

Due to the COVID situation necessitating postponements, this event finally took place in 2022, making it sweeter than ever to finally touchdown in Kathmandu.

Seventeen enthusiastic trekkers raised funds and headed off to Nepal to experience this iconic trek first-hand. They trekked and climbed to 18,500ft to see Everest in all its glory, and clocked up over 100 miles in the process. It was a tough trek, and their training regime had involved numerous preparation weekends away in the Lake District where they were put through their paces.

As you would expect, the team remained fully committed to the cause throughout the postponements, helping to fund a Vocational School in Kathmandu for young people to learn a trade – carpentry, plumbing, electrics, welding, fabrications and tailoring, so that they could go back to their village and start a business. It’s a phenomenally successful model piloted by the Nepal Youth Foundation, and we are helping expand the capacity of the existing facilities.

Together the team raised over a staggering £135,000, which was matched by
St. James’s Place for their charitable causes, specifically Onside Centres for young people in the UK. It was a very big tick on many people’s bucket list, and provided a unique insight into Nepal, its mountains, and the local community. Trekkers paid all their own costs (as with all our projects).
