Everest Basecamp Trek October 2021 – Postponed to October 2022

In October 2021, 17 enthusiastic trekkers were due to head off to Nepal to raise funds and experience this iconic trek first-hand. They would trek and climb to 18,500ft to see the dawn over Everest, and clock up around 80 miles in the process. It would be a tough trek, and their training regime has involved numerous preparation weekends away in the Lake District where they will be put through their paces. Nepal is desperately grappling with COVID at the moment, and has meant postponement yet again from the original date in 2020 to 2022 – so it will sweeter than ever to touch-down in Kathmandu! As you would expect, the full team remain fully committed to the cause. We are helping to fund a Vocational Centre for young people to learn a trade – carpentry, plumbing, electrics, welding, fabrications and tailoring, so that they may go back to their village and start a business. It’s a phenomenally successful model piloted by the Nepal Youth Foundation, and we are helping expand the capacity of the existing facilities. The team will be expected to raise at least

£5,000 each, that will be doubled by St. James’s Place for their charitable causes, specifically Onside Centres for young people in the UK. It will be a very big tick on many people’s bucket list, and a unique insight into Nepal, its mountains, and the local community. Trekkers pay all their own costs ( as with all our projects) and every penny raised goes to the charities. Keep abreast of Updates as the team progress through training and then Nepal towards (eventually!) the “Throne-room of the Mountain Gods” at Everest Base Camp
